As children, each one of us had an “Ideal” world view. A view which was picture perfect and made sense to us. There was fairness, justice, love, compassion, playfulness, laughter, camaraderie. You can list all the qualities which most management books talk about and find them alive in children. That’s the reason we love to see a baby giggle, or the #Laughter videos are full of antics of little babies. Come to look at it, even animals know this and exhibit these behaviour. A few years back, our adopted street dog (his name is Brownie, handsome he is) had babies. They would play and jump. In all humility, he allowed my family to handle his babies. My Baby and his baby grew up together and he knew this and exhibit the quality of a “Father” in nurturing both these children. Each one of us were created for this “adventure”.

Eventually, each of us become adult and exhibit adult behaviours — this is the “accident” many of us create — Boundaries, Fears, Envy, Jealousy…these goes on…Often, we hear telling each other that “You are grown up now, don’t behave like a kid, The world is a mean place”…goes on and on. Our World View changes…slowly, drip by drip unless………………………………………………………………

…..We keep the “Child” within us alive and bring it back in our lives. I ask this favourite question invariably in every workshop I facilitate :

What is that #One #Hobby you enjoyed as a kid and are still actively indulging in it?

Most often, I get a bunch of excuses. As you are reading this, let me ask you this simple question :

What is/are your excuse(s) for not indulging in your childhood hobby?

To the little children reading this post,

Can we re-construct our “World”, thereby our “World View” by bringing the “Child” back into this world we have labeled “Earth”?

Will it make a difference if we change the label?

My childhood hobby was and still is gardening. I enjoy watering the plants and watching them grow. Even today, every morning at 6 – 6:15 am, I am off to our common garden – watering, weeding and taking care of all the baby plants and friends. Hey, something exciting is happening in my backyard garden. I am having caterpillars in my house on the curry plant (remember my article The Butterfly Garden – Metaphor). Yes they are growing fat and stout, chomping all the leaves they can…yippee…all kids are invited to watch them crawl and nibble at the leaves..they are gorgeous.

As an organization system, do we nurture the #Organization Inner child which wants to play, built relationships and have fun within and outside the system?

All work and no play makes an #Organization a dull system 🙂
