DO you Love yourself? asks Anita Moorjani in her best-selling book “Dying to be Me”.
This simple yet profound question keeps speaking and reminding, prompting me to reach out to all of you. I had never thought of this before in such a simple way.
I tweeted it, wrote on FB, yet the impact continues to be felt within. It is as if this simple question has woken me up from my slumber of ignorance. I confess there were/are parts of me which I don’t love until this question prodded me to befriend them. The journey of completeness has started with this first step of “acceptance”. It is a paradox of sorts. Loving oneself is the easiest act as well as the toughest. Most often, in the hurry and flurry of life, we often apply this in our relationship with all others except oneself.
It is easy when we let go and embrace the child within us. It is tough when we have to start unshackling and dropping all the hot coals of anger, jealousy, envy, pride, arrogance etc. which we proudly carry with, in our journey as adults. After all my identity is at stake, the ego whispers “Cling to these hot coals.”
The book of Corinthians describes “Love” in a very powerful way
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends;….
The Buddha put it very simply
“If you truly loved yourself, you could never hurt another”
I am homeward bound already, and I invite you too to embark on this exciting healing journey. When you truly love yourself, you will find the world loving you.
After all, is not the world outside a reflection of the world inside?
