“No Camp, No Camp” cries one migrant desperately clinging on to his family.

An exodus of people moving from their land in search of a safe pasture. Tired of war and conflict, tired to the point of death, lifting their tired bodies and taking the only way known to man. Traversing across mountains, borders, packed unto buses, trucks or boats unable to take their load, in the hope of a “safe pasture” for their family and themselves. It is the call of the human spirit in an extreme act of survival for their loved ones.

My soul bleeds for these families, especially children who are the scapegoats of the pervertedness of power having a naked dance on earth. My soul cries “Mercy O Lord” for thy people are suffering.

In the present crisis, I am staring at a human tragedy that humiliates all developments man has made so far. History is alive with tragedies that have made man pay a steep price. History reminds us of our mistakes which unfortunately we seldom pay heed to and continue repeating them.

My soul is pierced with pain when I see this herculean suffering slowly engulfing the human race. Is there any hope I ask?

I am reminded of the story of the “Good wolf” and the “Bad wolf”. I am sure we have all heard it in our own folk traditions. We all know who wins in the end. Do we? Whom are we really feeding? ( as individuals, communities, as a society and as nations)

Happiness is contagious, we agree. When one person smiles or laughs, it automatically triggers similar action from us. If so, the corollary is equally true. When people suffer in one part of the world, the entire creation suffers. The whole of creation is interconnected.

Once again we are reminded to discover our light and shine it on creation. There is no big or small, little or more light. Light is light. It will shine forth and find its way. At the end of the day, we are all migrants on this earth, are we not?

As the Bhagavad Gita reminds us,

“They alone see truly who see the Lord the same in every creature, who see the deathless in the hearts of all that die. Seeing the same Lord everywhere, they do not harm themselves or others. Thus they attain the supreme goal.”

To sum it up, this beautiful verse from the Bible invites us to shine our light to heal one another

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”

It is time to shine our light on this Earth before it is too late.
