The world is keeping its fingers crossed on how Greece will handle the current crisis it is in. Each of us in whichever part of the world are living in, considers this important and relevant as today it is Greece, tomorrow it may be my own country. Global stock markets are a great place to make and lose money.

When you look at the Greece story, it is interesting to observe the structure of this meltdown. There are clear tell-tale signs the economy kept showing and the world kept ignoring until it could not be contained.

Can you believe this? The first cracks started appearing in 2009, yet every nation ignored it by choice.

2 of the most well known tell-tale signs were seen in the two “D’s”

1. Debt repayment crisis

2. Fiscal Deficit

I want to use the “Greece” story as a metaphor which can be applied in different areas of our life. Here are a few of them:

Physical Health

What is your “Greece” story about physical health? Do we wait for the first cracks to appear until few years later it surfaces as high cholesterol or heart ailment or severe obesity. Are you in prime shape or at least take efforts to exercise every single day. Are you aware of what goes into your body as “fuel” in the form of food? Ironically, most of us take more care of our material goods more than our own health.

Mental Health

What is your “Greece” story about mental health? Can we say with pride that my mind is sharp as Sherlock Holmes. That we feed our mind with the best of mental foods that are available whether in the social media, television, books and our daily routines to keep it sharp and agile. We all know that a knife is as worth  its sharpness.

Emotional Health

What is your “Greece” story about emotional health? Are we keeping our emotions in prime shape. That we are aware and acknowledge our joys, sorrows, pains, frustrations, anger, jealousy, envy …. and are willing to work with it and not push it under the carpet hoping that it will take care of itself “one fine day”. Most of us are not even aware of how much harm we are doing when we fail to acknowledge our own feelings to oneself.

Spiritual Health

What is your “Greece” story about spiritual health? Are we nurturing our inner child in ways that keeps it alive and happy. Irrespective of whether you believe in any divine entity, are you willing to express your inner child in ways that nurture it. You may be doing it by a walk in the woods or watching the sun rise or set, or by playing the mud with your kid or by prayers and in many other ways. If not, are you willing to look at the signs and symbols the spirit within you is showing to you whether it be through dreams or people or books wherein certain words jump at you.

Financial Health

What is your “Greece” story about finances? Are you holding multiple credit cards and are overboard in your spending. Are you managing to only pay the “minimum amount due” and getting sucked into a debt trap. Are you shopping out of your capital income and not your compounded interest income? What happens when you stop working? does the income you generate stop generating?
