18 Ideas to making “Mumbai” Shine

1. Make Mumbai visually appealing.
2. Let the city walls be handed over to the J.J school of Arts students – they will make the walls come alive.
3. Let each BMC run garden have one section of it reserved by composting. Citizens get their first lessons here.
4. BMC to create awareness of the local flora and fauna of Mumbai. Assign at least one billboard which is reserved for advertising to this campaign.
5. Make it compulsory for all residential buildings to be brightly painted every 5 years. The Paint industry can explore CSR activities here.
6. Adopt the Japanese system of 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain). Teach this philosophy to all babies right from nursery onwards. Catch them young.
7. Make it a CSR practice for all corporates to devote one hour in a month to cleaning up their local area.
8. Each suburb to get one day a “traffic free day”. Let Mumbai be the first in the world to start this practice across the world.
9. Be grateful to the traffic cops, they really sweat it out. Some of them may be corrupt, most of them are not. No stereotyping please.
10. Harness into the collective network of our friends at the traffic signals for managing traffic viz. our transgender friends. They need to be integrated into our society and giving the respect they deserve.
11. Light up all the subways with bright lights and for god sake, let it be cleaned up.
12. Follow the railway model of round the clock cleaning. Equip the sanitation workers with electric brooms and let them restore the shine of the city with our joint efforts.
13. Create high streets in every suburb only for people to enjoy the space.
14. Run a Cleanliness competition among all BMC run Municipal markets. They do not seem to be washed for ages. CSR can be explored here.
15. Each suburban station to have earmarked area for Rickshaws, Cabs. Educate the rest who do not follow.
16. Celebrate life in this amazing city of Mumbai.
